Everyday 3000 bikes are stolen in Amsterdam. A friend of mine said that if your bike is stolen you should just steal random bikes until finally you end up with your own again.

There are 15.000 km of bikepaths in Amsterdam.

There are 700.000 people living in Amsterdam and about 1 million bikes.

If you need a bike you can always find a drug addict with a bike to sell somewhere around, an excellent combination of an open drug culture fused with a forward-thinking transportation scheme.

Someone mentioned that every year 60.000 bikes end up in the Amsterdam dykes. That’s a lot of bikes, in dykes.

In 2007 26 people were murdered in Amsterdam, while only 18 people died in bikerelated accidents. It doesn’t say if those people were murdered for their bikes.

This is me and the bike my landlord lent me with my room. It’s 82 years old and I have dubbed it The Ossominator, because it’s OSSOM.

The volcanic eruption back home in Iceland is upping the ante, and now ash is stopping most european airtraffic. I say it’s a message to the world;

You play with fire you get burnt. You play with Iceland you GET ASH IN YOUR AIRTRAFFIC.

At the StrawberryFrog offices there’s a wall where all the employees hang up what they find is funny and interesting on the net. Given enough time, hopefully this will create an analogue version of the internet.

I’ve got an apartment. It’s located at Prinseneiland 75L (google maps).

“In 1610 and 1615 three artificial islands (Prinseneiland, Bickerseiland and Realeneiland) were build as an extension of the harbor. Until the end of the 19th century this was an area with many wharfs, little industries and warehouses, related to the shipping trades. After the second World war the desolated area was discovered by many artists (Jan Sierhuis, Johan van der Keuken, Jef Diederen, Reinier Lucassen, Peter Schat among others), who established their homes and studios in the vacant buildings. During the second half of the 20th century the old warehouses were transformed into apartments one after another, and new apartments were build. Nevertheless a lot of the atmosphere of the glorious past is still present in the old buildings and wooden drawbridges.”

I’ll be living with a mountaineer/consultant from Amsterdam who makes coffee on travelling cookers and does yoga.

I’m really beginning to like Amsterdam.
